Provisional Driving License
If you are 17 years and 6 months or older, you are eligible to apply for a Provisional Driving License in Cyprus.
This license allows you to begin taking driving lessons and book your official practical driving test.
The provisional license exam is a verbal test that assesses your knowledge of:
- Road signs
- Traffic signals
- General traffic code and rules in Cyprus
The exam is conducted at the Road Transport Department in each city and can be taken in either Greek or English.
Motorcycle Category
A1
Requirement:
17.5 years old +
7 hours Minimum of training
Power: (125cc) or up to 11 KW


A2
Requirement:
20 years old +
7 hours Minimum of training
Have Full Category A1 at least 2 years
Power: 400cc or Up to 35 KW
A
Requirement:
24 years old +
Minimum 7 hours of training
Have Full category A1 license
Power: No Limit

What You Can Drive with a Manual Driving License (Category B) in Cyprus
- Private passenger cars with manual or automatic transmission
- Vehicles with a maximum authorized mass (MAM) of up to 3,500 kg
- Up to 8 passengers (plus the driver โ total of 9 seats)
- With or without a light trailer up to 750 kg
- Motorhomes, vans, and pickups within the MAM limit
Who Can Apply for a Manual Driving License in Cyprus
- Minimum age: 17.5 years
- You must obtain a learnerโs permit before starting lessons
- A medical certificate may be required
- You must pass the theory test before the practical exam

Important Notes About Manual vs. Automatic License
If you pass in an automatic car, you cannot drive manual cars
If you pass the test in a manual car, you can legally drive both manual and automatic vehicles
Truck + Trailer

What You Can Drive with a Truck + Trailer License (Category C+E) in Cyprus
With a Category C+E license, you are allowed to drive:
- Large trucks (lorries) over 3,500 kg with a detachable trailer
- Combined vehicles with no maximum weight limit
- Trailer can exceed 750 kg, including container-type trailers
- Manual and automatic transmission, depending on test vehicle
- Vehicles used for commercial or private purposes, including logistics and delivery
Important: Category C+E includes Category C. You can drive rigid trucks (C) and articulated trucks with trailers (C+E).
Who Can Apply for a Truck + Trailer License in Cyprus
- Minimum age:
- 18 years with professional driver training (CPC)
- 21 years without CPC
- You must already hold a Category C license
- Medical examination is required (eyesight, physical health)
- You must complete truck + trailer lessons with an approved instructor
What to Expect During Lessons and Test
- At least 15โ20 professional driving lessons recommended
- You will learn:
- Coupling and uncoupling the trailer correctly
- Driving techniques for long vehicles and wide turns
- Safe reversing and manoeuvring with trailer
- Brake systems and load awareness

- The final test includes:
- Vehicle inspection (walk-around checks)
- Practical driving test with trailer attached
- Theory test, if not previously passed

- You receive a Category C+E driving license
- Valid for commercial and private transport
- Recognized in Cyprus, all EU countries, and internationally
- Required for jobs like truck driver, logistics, and freight transport
Important Notes About C+E License
- You must pass your test in a manual truck, if you want to drive both manual and automatic
- Passing in an automatic truck limits your license to automatic only
- A Driver Qualification Card (CPC) may be required for commercial driving

What You Can Drive with a Truck License (Category C) in Cyprus
A Category C license allows you to drive:
- Rigid trucks (no trailer) over 3,500 kg in weight
- Commercial or private-use trucks, including refrigerated and cargo vehicles
- Trucks with up to 8 passenger seats (plus driver)
- With or without a trailer up to 750 kg
- Vehicles with manual or automatic transmission, depending on the test vehicle
Important: This license does not include articulated vehicles or trailers over 750 kg (youโll need C+E for that).
Who Can Apply for a Truck License in Cyprus
- Minimum age:
- 18 years with Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- 21 years without CPC
- You must already hold a valid Category B license
- A valid medical certificate is required
- You must pass a theory test and complete practical truck lessons

- If you pass the test in a manual truck, you are allowed to drive both manual and automatic trucks

Bus

What You Can Drive with a Bus License (Category D) in Cyprus
With a Category D license, you are allowed to drive:
- Buses with more than 8 passenger seats
- Public transport buses, school buses, and coaches
- Vehicles with or without a luggage trailer (up to 750 kg)
- Manual or automatic transmission, depending on test vehicle
Who Can Apply
- Minimum age: 21 years (24 for unrestricted D)
- You must already hold a Category B license
- Medical certificate is required
- Driver CPC is mandatory for commercial transport

After You Pass
